We have been enjoying these little collie pups so much – it is hard to believe they will start going to their new homes in two weeks.
We make a point to play with each puppy individually a few times throughout the day. I have lots of great helpers, and the kids are carefully to make sure no one is forgotten. We have been working on keeping the puppies used to being touched all over, which is done by intentionally petting them behind the ears, running our hand up and down their back, gently inseting a finger in their mouths and rubbing their gums, touching their nails and between each toe, rubbing their tummy, and giving their tails a little gentle tug. This is done to desentize them from being touched all over and to help them be more calm when things like clipping nails, giving medication in the mouth, or just playing with their new families comes up.
We have also continued to introduce them to new experiences and enviroments. We place a new toy or object in their pen each day. It is fun to watch them pounce, sniff, bark and then play with items such as a stuffed toy, soccer ball, small bucket, scarf, and more. They also continue to enjoy their romp from the house to the barn, stopping to investigte along the path or wrestle a little here and there.
Their mother Brandy continues to jump into the den a few times a day and still allows them to nurse briefly, but she is actively weaning them and spending most of her time patroling the farm again.
Enjoy a few snapshots of their day and videos below.
