Moving the Sheep

July 22, 2021 By Leah Leave a Comment

Natalie & our English Sheepdog, Brandy moving the sheep to a new shady grazing location for these hotter days.
We move our sheep’s grazing location every day, which we have found to not only keep them happy by keeping a variety of grasses and weeds in their diet, it also evenly fertilizes our property (sheep droppings are very similar to that of a rabbit) and has drastically reduced the amount of mowing we have to do. To give you an idea . . . last year we had to mow at least one a week. This summer we have only mowed 3 times (it being a drought year, and not being concerned with slightly wild look to the lawn between grazing has also contributed).
We utilize 100′ of portable pig fencing and a solar charger, which enables us to move and contain our flock pretty much anywhere on the property we like.
